Since the beginning of the 21st century, the demands for a large amount of data processing and storage have increased dramatically. Data center industry has been developed rapidly due to the sustainable economy grows and industry expansion. At present, data center has been widely used in the fields of financial, telecommunications, civil aviation, transportation, science and technology and other various industries.

   The power reliability is the principle requirement for a data center. It requires a complete fault handling mechanism system to ensure the reliable operation. Therefore, for data center power distribution, besides the requirement ofdual circuit power source running independently in power distribution, it also requires a standby diesel generator and a high capacity UPS.

   Many challenges are encountered in large and medium-sized data center design and construction. A power supply system is particularly important in such systems. The data center should be equipped with backup diesel generators in the fields of finance, civil aviation, electric power, communication and other industries. The standby diesel generator set, as the important section of power protection, its model selection should be carefully considered. If we use traditional 380V generators for the standby power, it will require many runs of cables and bigger space for cable racks. Also, the installation may be a problem for multi-unit system at the same location as the air intake and ventilation, exhaust emission and noise reduction cannot be accommodated in the data center building, it needs to be done in a separate distant power room which requires more cables runs and larger cable racks. Therefore, 10kV generators are coming into play as they use less cables and space, saving on civil construction cost in comparison to traditional 380V generators. It becomes the important solution for standby generator used in communication buildings and data centers.
